Welcome to the Newswriting class daily news digest!
This semester you will be assigned to a group of newsies in your journalism class. You and your classmates will provide interesting and relevant daily news for your journalism colleagues by 9 a.m. Monday through Thursday.
Media publishers and editors are encouraging educators to help journalism graduates have a better understanding of audience --- exactly who are you writing for? How does audience affect what you write about, how you write it? Who is your community?
This blog will be an opportunity to examine and practice the concept of audience in news.
News posts should not be a list of what the Sacramento Bee has decided is news, or the San Francisco Chronicle, or any other major newspaper. Instead, concentrate on what is of interest to your colleagues, your age group, people with special interests in your Sacramento community or Sacramento State community. Look throughout the Internet to find information that gives you the Wow! factor ---- 'Gee, I didn't know that' --- or the Rage factor --- 'why didn't I know about that?' --- or the 'Guess I Should Read That' factor....

Make sure the news is coming from a credible source. We'll talk a lot about that this semester. And don't forget to check other college newspapers from around the country, too. What are they writing about?
Be prepared to debate the choices made by the daily news teams when you get to class!
