Some people staked out places at Hiram Johnson High School as early as 7:45 a.m. Many brought books to read, toys for the kids, and home-cooked lunches. And most of the 5,000 people who showed up Monday for Sacramento County's first public H1N1 vaccine clinic carried the hope they might shield themselves from what's becoming an aggressive flu season.

CSU offering more classes next semester

Students who were unable to enroll in their required courses may be relieved of the frustration next semester.
After receiving approximately $1.5 million from the California State University system, Sacramento State is adding more course sections for the spring semester.
The money is from the CSU system's one-time $25 million allocation last month.
The fund is divided among all 23 campuses and each campus will receive approximately $1 million from this fund.

The woman accused of drowning her 3-year-old daughter Sunday is a nurse who filed for bankruptcy last year and alleged in court papers she was a victim of domestic violence.

On Nov. 19, Sacramento State's Library Quad will be home to "Causeway Classic Extraordinaire!" Hosted by Associated Students Inc., the one-of-a-kind event will feature a student talent show, performances by the marching band and speeches by influential members of the community.
According to the event proposal, the celebration is an ASI effort to increase student participation in campus events, particularly the upcoming Causeway Classic football game against the UC Davis Aggies.

9 injured in shooting after San Francisco concert

Police say nine people were injured in a shooting outside a concert sponsored by a San Francisco radio station.
Police say the gunfire erupted outside the Regency Center around 10:30 p.m. Sunday after four or five men got into a fight following a concert sponsored by radio station KMEL. Police say another man pulled a gun, walked up to the crowd and opened fire.
